Nice picture Jenn! Let me ask you something: recently my wife bought a Canon EOS rebel T5 which came with a 18-55mm lens. I'm really new on this, but I would like to know if my camera would be able to catch pictures as yours (like the moon and the comet).
Hi Luis! Oh my goodness... I am so jealous!! That is an excellent, excellent camera! :) the 18-55mm is a good standard start... and to get to the moon shots... you'd maybe need something a little stronger... probably starting at the 200mm range! :) I found this image that might help illustrate!
My little digital Canon camera gets up to the range of 1200mm, and at that magnification, I always use a tripod and a remote. (Just like this one: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=&sku=70561&gclid=CNDv98rGjMMCFcSPMgodgUEAaw&Q=&is=REG&A=details)
This will allow you to leave the shutter open for extended amounts of time to bring in more light/exposure to the image, which is what you will need to capture the comet... or even startrail photos. You would definitely want a remote on a tripod for that.
